Vandalism down to a fraction in Martinlaakso

In Martinlaakso, there is a relatively unique car park, which also needed unique solutions to function as intended. The garage is used by several hundred people under contract, but in addition to these users, the garage must also provide parking for other users. In other words, the hall has twenty public parking spaces, which must be freely accessible. The hall has two entrances, one at the east end and one at the west end.

Since anyone must be able to park their car in public spaces, the access control in the hall must be such that at least one entrance is accessible without a parking contract and access right. The western entrance has in the past been equipped with a motion sensor to open the door for non-contracted parking. However, this solution did not serve its purpose as well as might have been expected. In fact, the lift-up door also opened to pedestrians, which caused inappropriate presence and vandalism. The vandalism eventually became a recurring nuisance, even several times a week.

For Lasse Erjamo, the car park's recent manager, Tolotech was a familiar operator because of the access control system at the east entrance of the car park. Tolotech's telephone call opening system had been in use at this entrance for some time. Erjamo therefore approached Tolotech with a vandalism problem in his hand.

At first, the setup caused a few head scratches at Tolotech too, but the problem was eventually solved with the help of license plate recognition. A licence plate recognition camera was installed at the door, together with our access control equipment, which allows access only to vehicles with a licence plate. If the registration plate is found on our ToloGo service, when the liftgate is opened, the user is given active access to the hall's access door. Instructions for using the ToloGo application have been added to the entrance. This means that anyone can add their car to the app and then access both the liftgate by car and the access door on foot.

According to Erjamo, the implementation of the system went smoothly, including the adjustment of the equipment, and there were no problems. In addition, Tolotech's service department has so far been quick to respond and has solved even the smallest challenges in no time at all. In particular, the fact that Tolotech was prepared to develop the system specifically to meet the needs of the Martinlaakso car park impressed Mr Erjamo.

Now that the system has been in place for a while, it is safe to say that the level of vandalism has decreased significantly. Whereas in the past incidents occurred several times a week, now vandalism is reported to the staff in charge of the hall only occasionally per month. According to Mr Erjamo, the absolute strength of the Tolotech access control system is the overall increase in security in the Martinlaakso hall. In such an environment, security is a factor in almost everything.
